Learn About Us

Worldwide non-profit charity organization

Ta-Wopaneh Association UK was founded in May 2003 and is registered as a charity in the UK since August 2006. The organisation’s ethos is based on respect, strong family values, traditions and empowerment. The name Ta-wopaneh (pronounced Ta-wo-pa-neh) means Togetherness. It comes from one of the native dialects of Sierra Leone (a country in West Africa off the Atlantic Ocean coast that was ravaged by a 10 year civil war in the 1990s and the EBOLA crisis in 2015).Sierra Leone is also one of the poorest countries in the world and there is a need for people to unite and support its development potential.
Tawopaneh Association-UK works to alleviate poverty for all Sierra Leoneans living in their home country, the UK and elsewhere, through the promotion of education, health, culture and community empowerment.
  • To provide educational support through the provision of teaching and learning resources to schools and training centres in the UK and Sierra Leone, this also includes building school facilities where possible.
  • To raise awareness of Sierra Leonean culture to all interested parties including those of Sierra Leonean heritage in the UK and abroad.
  • To engage in fundraising activities to support all projects that the organisation embarks on.
  • To provide information, advice and guidance on issues that affect Sierra Leoneans and others living in the UK and abroad.
  • To engage in health promotion and sensitisation programmes to improve the health and well-being of all.
